PSHE and RSE Subject Leader: Miss A McCann
Intent
At Netherbrook Primary School, we use ‘Jigsaw’ as our programme of study. This enables us to strive to nurture all children into lifelong learners, equipping them with the confidence and skills to embrace new experiences, tackle challenges and navigate unfamiliar situations.
PSHE lies at the heart of our approach, fostering independence, confidence, health, and responsibility in our pupils. It supports the development of the “whole child” intellectually, morally, socially and spiritually. We provide a nurturing learning environment where each child is encouraged to reach their full potential, and achievements are celebrated and rewarded. Recognising the uniqueness of every child, we promote mutual respect, responsibility and self-esteem in a caring and happy atmosphere.
Through our whole-school PSHE curriculum, underpinned by the Jigsaw Scheme, we deliver relevant, meaningful, and engaging content. This is enriched by a focus on emotional literacy, resilience, and both mental and physical health. In an ever-evolving society, we equip children with a strong understanding of the diverse world around them and encourage them to contribute positively to their school and wider community. Our long-term plans integrate these aspirations, ensuring children acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives today and in the future. The curriculum promotes the qualities and attributes essential for thriving as individuals, family members, and active members of society.
With these aspirations, our INTENT for the PSHE curriculum is to:
Promote children’s moral, social, spiritual, cultural, and physical development through a broad and balanced curriculum.
Embed a strong understanding of relationships and sex education (RSE), enabling children to develop safe and healthy relationships both now and in the future.
Build children’s self-confidence and self-esteem, empowering them to be active, happy members of their school and community.
Foster an understanding of factors that contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
Instil an appreciation for the importance of British values.
Our carefully planned PSHE curriculum aims to enhance children’s well-being, supporting them to grow into active, healthy, and responsible individuals.
