Intent

At Netherbrook Primary School we teach the subject of Design and Technology through our ‘Topic’ lessons and D&T is linked to Art, History and Geography as well as our English work. It is also our aim to create strong cross curricular links with other non Topic subjects, such as Mathematics, Science and Computing to make the learning in D&T meaningful.

Our Design and Technology curriculum is designed to show progression across all year groups. All of our units are linked to one of our four key themes:

These key themes enable our children to develop their practical skills and subject knowledge and build upon what they have learned previously.

We intend to build an effective Design and Technology curriculum which is inspiring, rigorous, and practical.

We want our children to use creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

We intend for all children to acquire appropriate subject knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum.

We want Design and Technology to prepare our children, to give them the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences they need to be successful in later life.
